Associate Attorney – Immigration Law & Related Matters
About Hocker Law
Hocker Law is a growing Indianapolis-area law firm that combines the experience, talent, and resources of a larger firm with the flexibility, personal attention, and collaborative environment of a smaller practice.
Following several years of continued growth, we are seeking an associate attorney with 2+ years of legal experience to join our team, with an emphasis on immigration law and related matters. Our firm maintains a diverse practice serving individuals, families, and businesses in matters involving real estate, civil litigation, estate planning and administration, family law, and immigration.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in immigration law, family-based immigration, employment-based immigration, or related administrative proceedings. However, we welcome attorneys with experience in related practice areas who are interested in expanding their skills, collaborating with colleagues, and building a rewarding long-term practice.
This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants to leverage existing experience while gaining exposure to other areas of law, developing meaningful client relationships, and contributing to a growing firm.

- Mentorship, collaboration, and support from experienced attorneys and professional staff.
- Opportunities for professional advancement and involvement in the firm’s continued growth.
- A welcoming, team-oriented culture that values diverse perspectives, initiative, and mutual respect.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an Immigration Law attorney with 2+ years of experience who enjoys practicing law, solving problems, and helping individuals, families, and businesses navigate complex immigration matters.
The position primarily involves immigration law and related matters, which may include family-based petitions, adjustment of status, naturalization and citizenship, employment-based immigration, visa applications, and representation before immigration agencies and tribunals, as applicable.
The successful candidate will have opportunities to work with attorneys throughout the firm on matters involving family law, civil litigation, estate planning and administration, real estate, and other complementary practice areas.
We value candidates who bring specialized experience but also enjoy learning, adapting, and contributing wherever their skills can benefit our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent and advise clients in immigration law and related legal matters consistent with the attorney’s experience and the firm’s practice needs.
- Manage legal matters from initial consultation through resolution, with appropriate support from other attorneys and staff.
- Prepare, review, and file immigration petitions, applications, supporting documentation, legal briefs, and other necessary filings.
- Conduct legal research, analyze complex immigration laws and regulations, and develop practical, client-focused solutions.
- Represent clients in interviews, administrative proceedings, hearings, and other proceedings before immigration agencies or courts, as applicable.
- Communicate effectively with clients, government agencies, opposing counsel, and colleagues.
- Collaborate with attorneys and professional staff across practice areas.
- Effectively manage multiple matters, deadlines, and client expectations.
- Maintain accurate and timely billing practices consistent with the firm’s compensation structure and applicable billable-hour expectations.
- Participate in professional development, community involvement, and the continued growth of the firm.
Qualifications
Required:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active Indiana law license or eligibility for admission to the Indiana Bar.
- Minimum of 2 years of legal experience, preferably in private practice.
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
- Excellent professional judgment, integrity, and commitment to client service.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
Preferred:
- Experience in immigration law, including family-based immigration, employment-based immigration, citizenship and naturalization, or related matters.
- Experience preparing immigration filings, managing client matters, representing clients before immigration agencies, or handling administrative proceedings.
- Experience in other firm practice areas, including family law, civil litigation, estate planning and administration, or real estate.
- Interest in expanding legal knowledge and developing a long-term practice.
We recognize that attorneys bring different backgrounds, strengths, and professional interests. Candidates are not expected to have experience in every practice area. We are particularly interested in finding an attorney whose experience and goals complement our existing team.
