Associate Attorney – Real Estate & Civil Litigation

Hocker Law | Indianapolis / Fishers, Indiana

About Hocker Law

Hocker Law is a growing Indianapolis-area law firm that combines the experience, talent, and resources of a larger firm with the flexibility, personal attention, and collaborative environment of a smaller practice.

Following several years of continued growth, we are seeking an associate attorney with 2+ years of legal experience to join our team, with an emphasis on real estate and related civil matters. Our firm maintains a diverse practice serving individuals, families, and businesses in matters involving real estate, civil litigation, estate planning and administration, family law, and immigration.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in real estate transactions, real estate disputes, contract matters, or civil litigation. However, we welcome attorneys with experience in related practice areas who are interested in expanding their skills, collaborating with colleagues, and building a rewarding long-term practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants to leverage existing experience while gaining exposure to other areas of law, developing meaningful client relationships, and contributing to a growing firm.

Why Hocker Law?

We believe that excellent legal representation and a fulfilling personal life are not mutually exclusive. Hocker Law is committed to fostering a supportive, collegial environment where attorneys can do meaningful work, develop professionally, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary, benefits, and incentive-based compensation.
  • Billable requirements are tied to the base salary and reflect our commitment to work-life balance.
  • A hybrid work environment offering flexibility while encouraging collaboration.
  • Meaningful responsibility for cases, direct client interaction, and professional autonomy.
  • Opportunities to develop expertise in multiple practice areas and build a well-rounded legal practice.
  • Mentorship, collaboration, and support from experienced attorneys and professional staff.
  • Opportunities for professional advancement and involvement in the firm’s continued growth.
  • A welcoming, team-oriented culture that values diverse perspectives, initiative, and mutual respect.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an attorney with 2+ years of experience who enjoys practicing law, solving problems, and helping clients navigate important legal and business matters.

The position will primarily involve real estate and related civil matters, which may include real estate transactions, property disputes, contract drafting and negotiation, and civil litigation.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to work with attorneys throughout the firm on matters involving estate planning and administration, family law, immigration, and other complementary practice areas.

We value candidates who bring specialized experience but also enjoy learning, adapting, and contributing wherever their skills can benefit our clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent and advise clients in real estate, civil litigation, and related legal matters consistent with the attorney’s experience and the firm’s practice needs.
  • Manage legal matters from initial consultation through resolution, with appropriate support from other attorneys and staff.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct legal research, analyze complex issues, and develop practical, client-focused solutions.
  • Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, hearings, and court proceedings, as applicable.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and professional staff across practice areas.
  • Effectively manage multiple matters, deadlines, and client expectations.
  • Maintain accurate and timely billing practices consistent with the firm’s compensation structure and applicable billable-hour expectations.
  • Participate in professional development, community involvement, and the continued growth of the firm.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active Indiana law license or eligibility for admission to the Indiana Bar.
  • Minimum of 2 years of legal experience, preferably in private practice.
  • Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Excellent professional judgment, integrity, and commitment to client service.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience in real estate law, civil litigation, contract matters, or related practice areas.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating legal documents, managing client matters, or representing clients in litigation.
  • Experience in other firm practice areas, including estate planning and administration, family law, or immigration.
  • Interest in expanding legal knowledge and developing a long-term practice.

We recognize that attorneys bring different backgrounds, strengths, and professional interests. Candidates are not expected to have experience in every practice area. We are particularly interested in finding an attorney whose experience and goals complement our existing team.

Work Environment

Hocker Law operates on a hybrid schedule, providing flexibility while maintaining a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration.

New associates are expected to spend substantial time in our Indianapolis/Fishers office during their first six months to become familiar with the firm’s practices, build relationships with colleagues, and integrate into the team.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience, benefits, and opportunities for incentive compensation.

Join Our Team

If you are looking for an opportunity to grow professionally, work alongside talented and supportive colleagues, and enjoy the advantages of a smaller firm without sacrificing the resources or variety of a larger practice, we encourage you to apply.
