Attorney Matt Maples grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he graduated from Homestead High School in 2001. For the next few years, he gained experience working in the accounting division of a home care company in Fort Wayne. Matt moved to North Carolina to attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2011 with a B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science. Matt returned to Indiana that same year to attend Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis.
While at Indiana University McKinney School of Law, he devoted time outside of his studies to learning the practical application of the law, volunteering as a certified legal intern at Indiana Legal Services from 2012 to 2014. Matt also learned the criminal aspects of the law in representing indigent clients through his work in the McKinney Law Criminal Defense Clinic.
When not working or studying, Matt volunteered much of his time with the Indiana University Student Outreach Clinic, not only spending time each week assisting community members with legal issues, but also serving as Vice-Chair and Chair of the Indiana University Student Outreach Clinic - Law in consecutive years. During his tenure as Chair, in the fall of 2013, the Indiana University Student Outreach Clinic was recognized with the Governor's Service Award.
Just prior to his graduation in 2014, Matt was himself individually recognized for his commitment to serving his community through legal outreach. The Indianapolis Bar Association presented Matt with the Law Student of the Year Award in April 2014. In May 2014, the McKinney School of Law chose him as the John Paul Berlon Pro Bono Award recipient, recognizing the nearly 2000 hours of pro bono work Matt completed while in law school.
Matt graduated from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2014. Upon passing the Indiana bar, he joined Hocker & Associates, LLC, where he works primarily in the areas of family law and criminal defense.
